The Inforay product suite can best be described as a multi-layered application, which uses X-Rays to retrieve critical business information from your company’s data sources. In doing so, data drawn from different sources can be combined. You can retrieve this information in a personalized business monitor, an Inforay Monitor. The Inforay software components comprise an application, administrative, Web and end-user layer. These layers are connected to a database layer, where the data sources reside.
Application layer
The application layer contains the Inforay Server, the heart of the application. This server retrieves data from the data sources and forwards it to the end-user applications. To do this, it uses an X-Ray in which the data structure and the links with the data sources have been defined.
Administration layer
The administration layer contains two programs: Inforay Enterprise Management Console and Inforay Authorization Management Console. The Enterprise Management Console is the program for local or remote starting, stopping and managing the Inforay Server. The Authorization Management Console is the program for managing Inforay user authorizations. In this program, users can be added or imported, and their authorization rights can be specified.
Web layer
The Web layer contains the Inforay Web Gateway, which provides for the communication between the Inforay Server and the Inforay Monitors. The gateway runs on a Web server. This can be an existing Web server on site, or the Apache HTTP Server that is shipped with Inforay.
End user layer
The end user layer contains three programs: Inforay Architect, Inforay Maverick and Inforay Rebel. Architect is the program for creating the X-Ray. The X-Ray is the basis for creating the business monitors in Maverick and Rebel. Maverick is the web-based program for creating Monitors with added functionality, such as export options. Rebel is a Windows-based program en therefore better suited for ad hoc analysis of large amounts of data. Inforay Monitors can also be published as stand-alone application, for example, on a company intranet.
Database layer
There is no database included in Inforay Suite 6, although a connection with one or more data sources is required for operational use. Inforay can work with online transaction processing systems, data marts, data warehouses, legacy systems and any data source with an ODBC data access interface.
